Our Wedding Vows
I am back!
Thank you for your patience while I took time away from writing to plan, celebrate, and settle back down from my wedding.
I’m so excited to share with you a few photos and the vows we wrote!
In all sincerity, I couldn’t have asked for a better day.
Brian and I got married on October 2nd, 2021 at the home my grandparents built, surrounded by the people we love most with the sun shining down on us.
I have never felt so light, so acknowledged, and so free.
(I also wish I could wear my wedding skirt every single day.)
It’s been a long road, for sure, but our partnership is based in friendship and support and that’s how we’ve made it to where we are today.
Like our officiant (Brian’s older brother) said, “They know what it’s like to be humbled to dust, and what it’s like to stand back up again, as better people. They’re not afraid to look into the place where the other hurts the most, and love them there.”
Because of the losses we’ve experienced in our own lives, we wanted our marriage to be a symbol of hope for everyone who was there to bear witness.
That day was a celebration of how far we’ve all come, and who we’ve chosen to become after the difficult things we’ve been through. (It’s what I want my writing and all I ever share here to be, too.)
We’re here, you and I, for the beauty that still exists. To take pleasure in seeing that which we love become more than it was before.
I am proud to say that on October 2nd, we did just that.
Without further ado, here are our wedding vows — an ode to the power of love, and friendship, and hope. Please enjoy.
Our Wedding Vows
I see you, and by seeing you
I bring you into being.
You are my partner and
I will be a partner to you.
I will respect you and
entrust my heart to you.
Anything important to you is
important to me.
I promise to stand with you
through high storms and light.
I promise to hold sacred
everything we stand for.
I promise to be true.
I would cross any river just to
be where you are.
I would follow you to
whatever end.
You are my home, my love,
my everything.
