The Soul of the Moment: A Mindfulness Poem for a Full(er) Life

The Soul of the Moment: A Mindfulness Poem for a Full(er) Life

The purpose of life, before anything else, is to live. You know, what’s the point of life if you’re not living it as fully as you know you could?

If you’ve been feeling like me lately, and know your life could feel more vibrant and full and fulfilling, read this mindfulness poem.

It’ll remind you to tend to the smallest things, the kinds of things you see and hear and taste and touch every day. The things that are craving your attention.

I think it'll be in the everyday things that you find yourself, your reason for being alive... because you're part of everything, and everything is part of you.

“In the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.” -- Kahlil Gibran

The Soul of the Moment: A Mindfulness Poem

The blades of grass are just begging you to look and see how, upon closer inspection, everything is a world. Everything has its poetry.

The scuff marks on the tile are showing you, if you care enough to look, that life has been here and you, in this moment and place, are part of the history that’s endlessly unfolding through time and space.

The breeze you just pass by without a thought beyond its coolness or commonplace nature, is inviting you to imagine and dream and revel in a reality that’s beyond what you can see.

The smallest things -- like a wildflower growing on the side of the road or the way the candle flickers as you walk past it -- maybe they notice you, in a way, when you notice them.

Imagine each moment, each detail as its own being, housing a soul of its own.

When you touch the soul of the moment, you find beauty and awe and meaning where others find nothing at all. You bring more life to life. You sense more, you embody more, you become more.

You might find light in the darkness, and darkness in the light. And this, you’ll understand in a moment, like a light beam, without a shadow of a doubt: your very reason for existing.

Because when you touch the soul of the moment, it means your soul comes out to explore life in greater detail. Your consciousness expands outward, unfolding inside itself, like the petals of a flower.

And you realize, in an instant, this is what you’re here for.

You’re here to explore and expand, to feel the full range of life’s color, and to notice even its absence.

You’re here, my dear, to dream yourself awake. To blossom into your surroundings and make even the smallest moments conscious.

Wherever you find yourself, there you are.

Here you are.

. . .

My print picks of the week:

  1. I am grateful for the constellation of my life.
  2. Your being here is the best kind of miracle.
  3. I take my steps slowly. I like to feel my life as I live it.

Tell me:

What here did you most need to read today?

Tell me in the comments. I'd love to know what you think!

To your life, that's full of life,

Jen

P.S. For more color in your days, start your morning off right with my book Morning Affirmations. It's more than a book. Make it a ritual. You'll love the way it makes you feel.
