You Belong Because We Belong to Each Other (A Poem)

You Belong Because We Belong to Each Other (A Poem)

You belong to yourself because you're everything experiencing itself. Wherever you go, there you are! You look around and see other people and it's easy to think that you're on your own, separate from what you see. But your healing is connected to mine. And so is your hurt. And so are your thoughts, words, and work. Read the poem to remember how connected (and valuable) you are.

Nothing is ever only an inside job or an outside job. We're too connected for that. Everything is an every-side job... if that makes sense.

When you take care of yourself, you plant seeds that’ll bloom later on — in your own life and in the world. As you heal, the world heals with you.

This, because we belong to each other.

You're your own galaxy in a world of galaxies, interlocking, experiencing life together.

Your kindness doesn't end with who receives it first, either. It spreads through them and works its way into their orbit. They find their own ways to give that same kindness away: through their hands, their words, their work.

But you belong, first, to yourself.

When you remember that you belong to yourself, you find your place in the world. It starts with you. Then the world starts to become a place of belonging for the people around you. Your self-healing and connection is a mirror.

This, because you're part of everything experiencing itself. (Crazy!) And so is everyone else. And we're doing this thing called life on earth as a human being together. That's why you belong to yourself, to everyone, to everything.

Enjoy the poem. Print it, post it, show yourself some love — 'cause your love goes round and round.

You Belong

Your healing is tied to mine,

and mine to yours.

The world waits for you —

to see what you’ll give,

to see what you’ll do.

The love you give

is the love you’ll feel

circling back to feed you,

and it heals you,

and the world heals with you.

This distance you feel

is the greatest illusion:

at the same time

this breath is mine

and it is yours.

What we share is the truth.

The kindness that pours through

your heart and your hands and your words

travels further than you see.

So trust love again,

because you are love.

Trust love again,

because you are love.

Your healing is a gift to us.
