In a world of constant movement and activity, this affirmation is a gentle reminder that you are home wherever you go; you are home. And if that’s so, then this is home–right here, where you are. There’s nowhere else you’re meant to be, if here is where you are.
“Never make your home in a place. Make a home for yourself inside your own head. You’ll find what you need to furnish it—memory, friends you can trust, love of learning, and other such things. That way it will go with you wherever you journey.” – Tad Williams
Home Is Where the Heart Is
Home is where my heart is, and my heart is always with me.
Though your heart may be elsewhere, so to speak, there may be a different way of looking at it. Maybe, because your heart is with another, they are with you, too–they live and pulse in your heart. By keeping them in your heart, you become the home for their soul, wherever they may be and wherever you are: they can be with you always.
All that you love is with you, and that love can’t leave you. Love is like coming home to the truth. Therefore, you can feel free knowing that wherever you go, if you go with all your heart, you’ll find yourself at home and in the light of truth, who you really are.
Make a home somewhere inside yourself to carry with you wherever you go. In that way, you can carry anything and anyone you love with you wherever you go. In this way, the love is always near and never far.
I Am Home
Wherever I go, I am at home within myself.
May each path you take be a journey into yourself. Being such, you’ll never be lost: everywhere you roam is where you’re meant to go.
In Martha Beck’s words, “Heading towards that inner home will take you places—both inside yourself and in the external world—which your heart will recognize as its native environment, even though you have never been there before.”
Rather than thinking you’re not home anywhere you go, what if you flipped that and began to think that everywhere was home? What if, as long as you stood in this moment and in this place with all your heart and all your energy, you could make it home? What if this is home, because this is where you are?
Make your inner world a warm, tranquil place where you feel safe to return to. Speak kind words to yourself. Think loving thoughts about yourself, then feel and listen to what happens. Let your heart guide you and your soul speak to you. Get internally comfortable, and loneliness will have a hard time making a home inside your heart.
This Is Home
If home is a feeling and not a place, then I can make a home that I carry with me always.
May you seek new landscapes with the purpose of seeing with new eyes. For, as Matsuo Basho wrote nearly 300 years ago, “Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.” The steps are the journey. The moments are the journey. Your life is a journey. Your happiness is a journey.
Each new shift in perspective, each miracle, each moment of despair and glory, every change of heart–it’s all part of the journey, and it’s all home.
As surely as there is a voyage away from a feeling of home, there’s a journey back. And on both of these roads, we can become home to all that we love, cherish, dream of, hope for, and live for.
And so it is, that this is home.
- When do you feel most at home?
- Can you keep love in your heart and feel that you are home to whatever, and whoever you love?
- Are you willing to trust that wherever you go is where you’re meant to be?
