This is a positive affirmation to step back into the light, to literally and figuratively let the sun shine on you when you’re having a tough time pulling yourself through the darkness.
“There is no darkness so dense, so menacing, or so difficult that it cannot be overcome by light.” – Vern P. Stanfill
Step into the Light
During the dark times, I still let the sun shine on my face.
Wilma Rudolph once said, “When the sun is shining I can do anything; no mountain is too high, no trouble too difficult to overcome.” And the sun is always shining; neither the darkest night nor the grayest clouds can stop the sun from shining. Allowing the light to shine on you is a realization that every flower must grow through dirt, and that every dark night will give way to dawn.
The more light you open yourself up to, the brighter the world you live in becomes. The brighter you allow the world around you to be, the better able you are to see your way out of the darkness. “Keep your face to the sunshine,” Helen Keller once suggested, “and you cannot see the shadows.”
Let the sun remind you that you will not be crushed by the weight of what causes you pain. The sun will help you grow and awaken to the beautiful possibilities that still exist in your life. There is no darkness too heavy to lift, too deep to climb out of, or too blinding that you will not see the light again.
Stay Open to the Love
Still, I stay open to the love that will never leave my side.
Beauty is a light in the heart that shines with hope despite all of the darkness. When it’s too dark to see, close your eyes and open your heart–that’s how the light will enter.
The love that you are a part of is not something that can be lost, destroyed, or betrayed. It can be expressed and expanded, or forgotten. It’s an unlimited resource pulsing through all life, and it’s not up to you or me to banish it or limit it. Stay open to the most powerful entity and energy that exists, and it will expand through you and help you get through any darkness you may encounter.
Let Your Light Shine
I too can rise again from the darkness. I too can shine my own light again.
The dark times have this sneaky way of making the stars shine that much brighter. If the stars can shine in the darkness, so can you. You can rebuild and you can heal because you are more than this pain and heartache. You are more than any stress or failure or success. You are so much more. Your ability to shine through the darkness is proof of that truth.
Even when there has been a tragedy in your life, it’s still possible for you to smile ever so faintly, to help someone else out, to have hope for better days, to say “I love you,” to walk through the pain and come out stronger and wiser from it. A crack in the concrete cannot stop a heroic flower from growing there still, and this proves that there’s an inner light that no darkness can ever put out.
Let your light shine, even in the smallest of ways. You too can rise again, just like the sun does every single morning even after the darkest night. And as you let your own light shine, you give other people permission and inspiration to do the same. You awaken the possibility of shining that light on someones else who may desperately need it, too.
When we are in pain, sometimes it is the act of helping another that makes our world become a little brighter again. After all, as James M. Barrie said, “Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.”
- In what small way can you step into the light today?
- What strength and insight can you gain from turning your face to the sunshine?
- Are you willing to stay open to the good in life?
