A Healing Poem about Loss and Holding on to Love

A Healing Poem about Loss and Holding on to Love

If you know the kind of pain that doesn't leave, read this poem about loss. It'll help you stop fighting against the mystery and soften into it instead. At least, for a moment. One moment of peace at a time... you deserve that much.

“Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.” – Inuit saying

I’ve learned that we can move forward with the love we shared with that person we lost, and in this way they can never be gone. It's an energy that never dies.

You might find your answers in the still and quiet room of your heart. Or in the wind that blows softly on your skin. Or in the small moments where you’re able to smile again.

Questions for My Soul, a Poem about Loss

Words don’t come easy.

It’s hard to breathe today.

Searching for peace,

But it will come my way.

Some people say: Time.

That’s what we need

For it all,

For healing and light.

But isn’t it right here, right now?

Isn’t that the way?

From you,

My eyes stray.

I look away

From your face.

Time is distance,

Time is space.

Whose fault is it

That you didn’t stay?

That you flew far away

From this place and from me?

I feel blind today.

I can’t look at you–

Not now.

I can barely even see.

And it’s my own fault;

I stayed.

I never flew.

I never learned how

And I never even tried.

My wings failed

Before they ever grew.

To myself I lied.

No fault, and no blame

I will attach to your name.

No place to go,

Nowhere to stay,

I think I see you how you are today.

It’s all here and now,

In between the lines

Of space and time–

That is the way.

Searching for me,

And I found you.

I’ve been searching for the place

Where everything is true,

To the place you flew.

I’m still looking for you,

But I’ve found a new way.

I’m looking with my heart now,

Instead of my eyes.

I’m not giving up

And I’m telling no more lies.

Who I am

Is where I’ll find you.

. . .

Tell me:

Which part of this poem did you need to read today?

Tell me in the comments. I read every single one, and I'd love to know.

With love,

Jen
