Once you recognize happiness as a choice, it becomes possible to choose to be happy. You become proactive about living a happy life through consistent and intentional thoughts that steer action. It may not be possible to be blissful in every experience, but we can be happy in any given moment. The possibility is always there.
“I am going to be happy. I’m going to smile a lot. I’m going to be easy. I’m going to count my blessings. I’m going to look for reasons to feel good. I’m going to dig up positive things from the past. I’m going to look for positive things where I stand. I’m going to look for positive things in the future. It is my natural state to be a happy person. It’s natural for me to love and laugh. I am a happy person.” – Abraham Hicks
Cultivate a Grateful Attitude
With an attitude of gratitude, I look for the beauty that many may miss, and I greet everyone today with more love.
Be willing to transform your life from the unthinking pursuit of outward pleasure to the enrichment of your inner world. In this way, authentic happiness becomes less of an achievement and more of an experience. One way to do this is to cultivate a grateful attitude towards as many situations, events, and people as you can.
To quote Martha Washington, “I have learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our dispositions and not on our circumstances.”
Sporting a grateful attitude is life changing. It rewires our brains to look for the beauty where others don’t see it. It inspires us to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud. It encourages us to serve others, to live with purpose, to be patient and kind before throwing spears of judgment in any direction.
Gratitude undoubtedly leads to happiness, and that touches more lives than your own.

Be Happy for this Moment
I’m learning to forgive the past, for I value this moment.
Learning to value this moment more than any other moment doesn’t mean forgetting about what happened before or disregarding what’s yet to come, but it does mean to cherish your life. This moment IS your life.
Forgiving the past–others for their mistakes and yourself for yours–gives you more energy show up fully and be happy in the present. It enhances your power to become fully immersed in the present experience without doubts or anxiety.
The story of our past cannot be erased and rewritten, but it can be read differently today. We can write a future based on our present decisions rather than on yesterday’s hurts. We can stay hopeful for tomorrow, yet not obsess over it.
Optimism is about living positively in the light rather than stressing over what may happen, for most things we worry about never happen anyway.
It may help you to practice trusting in life, and to cultivate the belief that whatever is happening now is here to benefit your life in some way, even if you can’t yet see how.
Happiness is not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
Choose to keep smiling because you are worthy of experiencing happiness and of living a life you treasure. As Marilyn Monroe once so beautifully put it, “Keep smiling, because life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.”
“Keep smiling” is something my dad always said, nearly every single day of his precious life.
When you start to choose happiness in the little things, in the mundane moments, and in the darkest places, you’ll come to realize that your life has become the reason to be happy.
There will be times when you feel as though there’s no other reason to smile than for the simple reason that your entire life is a miracle. When you feel this way–when your whole soul feels the gratefulness and the grace of being alive–this is genuine happiness. This is love.
Choosing to keep smiling is to remember the light in your soul and the love in your heart, and the beauty that’s so much deeper than we’re capable of reaching on any intellectual level.
