Two people can look at the exact same thing, and upon the exact same situation, and see something completely different. This poem is an ode to discovering a new perspective when an old view has stifled creativity, happiness, inspiration, or a love for life.
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes.” – Marcel Proust
Everything we see is based on the perspective we hold. As Dr. Wayne Dyer once said, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
What you see is highly dependent upon not only what you’re looking at, but where you’re looking from.
This poem is inspired by where we look from, with a goal to inspire a new perspective when a positive shift is called for. When we look at things from a certain distance, and in the right light, we can truly appreciate its value in our lives.
I hope this poem inspires you to open your mind and to think differently about what you’re seeing and experiencing in your life.
Always remember: Your positive shift is the miracle.
Can you try?
Can you give your all,
without the need to take a thing?
Can you smile for no reason at all,
only to wonder what it will bring?
Can you sing your own song,
without the fear of what they would think?
Can you face your fears,
and watch them, before you, shrink?
Can you love what you have,
without being distracted by more?
Can you take a leap of faith,
without seeing the floor?
Can you walk down the street,
with joy in your heart,
with no hurry in your step,
and no worry in your head,
and no regret of where you started?
Can you forgive and forget?
Can you remember and still forgive?
Can you make an enemy of a friend,
and recognize the darkness,
and have it be only light that you send?
Can you forget the desire to be right,
and choose happiness instead?
Can you remember the good,
and hope for the best,
yet stay rooted right here and now?
Can you even be troubled and weary,
gray clouds above,
yet still see the sun somehow?
Can you see what’s right in front of you,
and see beyond the shadow of a doubt?
Can you replace the heartache that ails you,
with a love that would prevail?
Can you grow from the pain,
without altering your name,
seeing the value when you fail,
making the opportunity your claim?
Can you fall into something different,
without falling apart?
Can you know that an ending,
however brilliantly disguised,
can be called a new start?
Can you release the comfort of familiar,
and embrace a new sight?
Can you look upon a dusty stone,
withered and weathered and seeming cold,
and remember the gem shining bright?
And when anything seems impossible,
and you fall down again,
Can you keep trying?
Can you trust in your life,
and believe in what’s within,
and carry yourself forward?
Can you try again?
- What are you trying to shift today?
- Are you willing to look at things differently and embrace a new perspective, in order to be happier?
- No matter what happens, are you willing to adjust your vision so that you can continue to grow and to love?

How you experience your experiences is up to you. Where you go from here is your choice. Your perspective is your power.
