Whether you’re Irish or Irish-at-heart, St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect day to sip on something green. This shamrock shake recipe is amazing and has all the creamy green goodness that you could ever want in a glass.

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day (and my love for anything green or anything that comes in smoothie form) here’s a healthy shamrock shake recipe that will get you in the celebratory mood.
In comparison to the original shamrock shake—which is loaded with 54 ingredients and obscure additives—this recipe is dairy-free, refined sugar-free, and additive-free.
The avocado adds a rich creaminess when blended with coconut milk, though almond milk tastes great too. The fresh mint is a healthy alternative to food coloring, and it’s almost like having a thin mint at the same time—add more if you really like a minty (and green) shamrock shake.
You can also throw in some spinach if you prefer that to the mint leaves.
To keep it nutritious I skip the traditional whipped cream and cherry, and to keep it delicious I top it off with some unsweetened coconut flakes and cocoa nibs or shaved dark chocolate (a vegetable peeler works great for the chocolate).

An Easy Healthy Shamrock Shake Recipe
Yields: 2 servings
- 1 cup coconut milk beverage (or almond milk)
- 1/3 cup coconut milk
- 1/2 cup coconut water
- 1 frozen banana
- ½ medium avocado
- 1 large handful fresh mint leaves, to taste (spinach works too)
- Raw honey, to taste
- Shaved dark chocolate or cocoa nibs (optional)
- Unsweetened coconut flakes (optional)
Add coconut/almond milk, coconut water, banana, avocado, mint/spinach, and honey to a blender and blend until smooth. Pause to stir the mixture with a spoon, if needed. Add extra milk or water to make it thinner or extra banana/avocado to make it creamier.
Top with shaved dark chocolate, cocoa nips, and/or coconut flakes if desired. Serve immediately.
Experiment with the ingredients to taste. There is only one rule…
