I spend a lot of time sitting at my desk, writing and working. Anything to make the experience a little more comfortable and enjoyable is welcome. If your workday could use a jolt of joy, these desk accessories might be able to sprinkle a little “you can do this” kind of attitude into your space.
“Does it spark joy?”— Marie Kondo
More important than finding joy, I think, is learning how to bring the joy. Though that has a whole lot more to do with our energy than it does with any material items, it doesn’t hurt to surround yourself with things that help you smile.
We don’t have to load up our desks and homes with clutter to feel the love, surely (that might have the opposite effect), but we can opt for one or two things that just make life a little easier.
Here are some things you can put on your desk to help you take care of your energy. These desk accessories were either just so adorable that I couldn’t help but smile, or had me feeling more at ease just looking at them.Discover joy in the simple moments, even if you have to create it yourself. 10 Cheerful Desk Accessories for a More Peaceful and Enjoyable Day at Work
I will probably always mention my favorite lamps of all time whenever the occasion arises: Himalayan salt rock lamps are simply delightful to be around, whether you keep them in every room in the house (like I do) or you’d just like a calming glow on your desk at all times. Here’s a nice medium size lamp, and this one is neat because it comes as chunks in its own glass container.
If you don’t have access to much natural light where you type, this portable energy lamp can help improve your mood without taking up too much space.
2. Low maintenance plants.
There’s a lot to love if you search the internet for cactus and succulent plant ideas. There are beautiful pottery designs and terrariums galore. I’ll just highlight a few perfect-for-the-desk ideas I ran into.
“In love” would be an accurate way to describe how I feel about this bright yellow crystal with an air plant perched on top. Yellow calcite represents energy, hope, and happiness, apparently. Yes, “in love” is accurate.
Okay, these air plant planters are perhaps the most adorable and happy little things I’ve ever seen. Seriously: Pineapple pals, smiling whales, and even happy sloths? That’s almost too cute.
If you’re a fan of the ocean, this lot of four sea urchin air plants is perfect.
You might love owls, and if so, you might also love these tiny ceramic owl planters.
As far as terrariums go, a small handmade stained-glass polyhedron would make a charming touch to any desk.
If you need to stock up on succulents, this looks like a good bunch.
3. A chair cushion.
Alright, so technically this isn’t something you put on your desk, but if you’re sitting at your desk for an extended period of time, it’s worth having because you may as well be comfortable while you do. Close enough for the purpose of this post.
Back pain and sciatica are no fun to deal with when you need to focus on important tasks. Talk about distracting. This best-selling orthopedic memory foam cushion promotes healthy posture and offers relief for sitting pain. I think that makes for a happier desk experience.“The little things? The little moments? 4. Animal paper clips.
Oh my gosh, what a way to add a touch of cheer to a piece of paper. There’s such a thing as paper clips shaped like dogs (and cats, elephants, pigs, and penguins). Choose your favorite critter. It’s the simplest things sometimes.
5. Essential oil diffuser.
Scent can play a powerful role in the energy we bring into the world. As far as essential oil diffusers go, this is a popular style that adds moisture to the air along with a pleasant scent based on whatever oils you choose to diffuse.
Personally, I think this pine wood diffuser is beautiful and I feel calmer just looking at it.
6. Pen holders.

7. A positive mug.
You can find a mug with practically any saying in the world on it. Here are some of my favorites:
8. Cable cures.
9. Pretty paperweights.
This crystal point holds a preserved rose inside and makes ordinary paperweights seem, well, just too ordinary.

10. Inspirational quotes.
Have a quote that motivates you to do your best and not stress about it? Consider printing it out and popping it into a picture frame for your desk. This pack of 52 tiny positive cards is a great idea and small enough to fit anywhere; switch the card out once a week for year-round inspiration.
