Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful or worthy of your smile. I hope this positive affirmation inspires you to smile at life today, without needing life to give you a reason first.
“Smiling is good for the heart, laughing is good for the soul and loving will keep you living, laughing and smiling.” – Paul Chucks
Reflect and Attract Happiness
When I smile at life, life smiles back at me.
It’s probably common sense that being happy naturally inspires a genuine smile. If you’re feeling great, it’s easy to smile. If that’s the case, then keep smiling, because it’s also wonderful to note that the opposite is equally true: Smiling sparks happiness.
If you’re not already in a good mood, know that smiling is a two-way street–it both reflects happiness and generates happiness where it initially seems to be lacking. Even a forced smile genuinely decreases stress.“Because of your smile you make life more beautiful.” – Thich Nhat Hanh Click To Tweet
Just smiling goes a long way toward making you feel better about life, and when you feel better, everything becomes better. There is healing in a smile. There is hope and therapeutic value and beauty in a smile. Even when it doesn’t feel like it, life continues to be a precious gift, and this moment is just a glimpse into the miracle of it all.
So, even when you don’t feel smiling, try. Life itself is the reason to smile. Your willingness to try is living proof that hope still exists, and that the possibility for happiness is still there. It’s always there.
Smile at Life First
I can generate the joy I need to make the most of this day.
The smile on your face doesn’t mean that life is perfect; it means you are willing to embrace the imperfections and enjoy all of life. Before you search life for a reason to smile, give life your smile first.
“One way to get the most of life,” as William Feather said, “is to look upon it as an adventure.”
Accept the fullness of life–its ups and downs, joys and sadness–and the mundane will never be without the magic. Everything is intertwined.“Always keep your smile. That’s how I explain my long life.” – Jeanne Calment Click To Tweet
Life becomes much easier when we walk around with smiles on our faces, but I know it can be challenging to do that sometimes. Just know this: if you can change your mind for the better about anything in life, you’ve just experienced a miracle. You have just accepted the opportunity for a miracle to show up and change everything.
Try trusting that life is supporting your evolution towards happiness and peace, especially in the middle of unhappiness and chaos.
Let Your Smile Light Up the World
Life isn’t perfect, and for that reason, my smile will shine light that this world needs.
At the end of the day, we cannot control everything that happens around us, but we can control what happens within us. Some days are easier, and some days are not easy at all. We mess up. We make mistakes and we can pick ourselves back up. We can keep moving with purpose and the knowledge that perfection isn’t happiness.Life doesn't have to be perfect to be worthy of my smile. There are so many ways we can light up the world around us, and one way is with our smile. As William Arthur Ward said, “A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.” It all begins with a choice to smile for no reason at all, to welcome the shift that is a miracle, and to be willing to trust that life is receiving your smile.
Here are some choices we can make whenever happiness seems so far away…
- Choose to be optimistic in the middle of chaos.
- Choose love in place of fear.
- Choose compassion instead of judgment.
- Choose kindness when we’re about to pour our bad day onto someone else.
- Choose to forgive someone who we feel has wronged us.
- Choose to forgive ourselves when we’re starting to feel regret.
- Prioritize happiness when it’s dark, because dawn always follows dusk.
Know that through your smile you can be the light that you wish to see in the world. All change starts within.
- Are you willing to smile at life, without needing life to give you a reason first?
- Are you willing to release any conditions you’ve placed on your experiences so that you can live more fully and freely today?
- What can you smile about, right here and now?
