An Affirmation for Your Negative Thoughts (P.S. They're Not YOU)

An Affirmation for Your Negative Thoughts (P.S. They're Not YOU)

Ruminating on painful memories and problems holds you back from living a life that feels good... to you. If you could use a little more light and relief today, read this affirmation. It's a breath of fresh air for your mind. And a reminder: you're NOT the negative thoughts that you think.

Your Negative Thoughts Are Not You

I am a witness to all of my thoughts. I let them come and I let them go, and hold on to nothing as I watch them flow through me.

You can't rise above what you're not willing to see. So take a deep breath and "look at" your negative thoughts. What have you been thinking about that's causing you more pain and suffering?

No judgment. Just see.

Negative thoughts, if you greet them with a little less angst and a little more space, will open your eyes to things you weren’t paying attention to before. Like the fact that you're not the thoughts themselves... but the one observing them.

Be a witness to your thoughts.

Acknowledge what’s going on inside your head and forgive yourself for what you find. Give yourself a break. A thought can be changed, after all.

By showing up for yourself, with yourself, in this moment, you’re already on your way to turning darkness into light, pain into power, chaos into consciousness.

Remember Who You Are: You're More Than You Think

I don’t avoid the negative thoughts I see, and I don’t dwell in them, either. Because I’m so much more than the thoughts I think.

Whatever thought patterns you notice circulating in your system, simply pay attention to them. From this place of honesty and truth, devote yourself to what you would like to experience more of.

You get to make a choice now. A choice to stay with the pattern you’re witnessing, or to step back and let the thoughts go just as easily as they came.

You may not be able to leapfrog from depression to joy, from anger to optimism. Not all higher thoughts are always available. You CAN choose the closest higher thought available to you here.

Thoughts are magnetic; they communicate and build off of one another.

Imagine all your thoughts, negative and positive, budding in your brain like a garden. Imagine that you're the one watering them with your attention, with the energy you feed them. Pick and choose which you'd like to see flourish: the flowers, or the weeds.

What you're doing is becoming more aware of what's happening in your head so you can bring more fresh air and light in. So you can breathe through what's happening instead of feel trapped by the stress or negativity.

Take one negative thought. What's the next closest, better-feeling thought you could think right now? How could you turn that into something slightly more hopeful? Water that next thought.

The Affirmation

I am a witness to all of my thoughts. I let them come and I let them go, and hold on to nothing as I watch them flow through me.

I get to guide the direction of my thinking. Eventually, the most nurtured thoughts take deeper roots and become my truths.

I am the gardener and my thoughts, the fruits of my work. I see each thought as a flower or a weed. And in every flower I see, there's a seed. I water the seeds of the flowers I want to see flourish.

I don’t avoid the negative thoughts I see, and I don’t dwell in them either. Because I’m so much more than the thoughts I think. I am the one who can turn them into new strength and new beliefs.

. . .

Which thoughts would you like to nurture more?

Tell me in the comments. I read every single one, and I’d love to know!

With love,

Jen
