These life changing practices are simple yet profound because they can help you bloom where you are. They can help you manifest what you wish to see in the world, and inspire you to walk yourself from a dark place back to the light. They can encourage you trust that where you are is where you’re meant to be, for where else would you be?
“I don’t want to get to the end of my life and find I lived just the length of it. I want to live the width of it as well.” – Diane Ackerman
Every single day is a chance to start anew. This post is a continuation of last week’s message of change, which invited you to:
- Expand your willingness to experience new things,
- Replace complaints with compassion,
- Be grateful when life is going good, and
- Value this moment more than any other moment.
Change is the essence of life, so I’d like to keep going with the important message that we have the power to live a life we find meaningful. Recognizing that power is life changing.
3 Life Changing Practices for Everyone
Stop waiting, and start becoming what you’ve been waiting for.
You must partake in the manifestation of your own miracles. That might just mean changing your perception of the situation, of the person, or of what a miracle is (which A Course in Miracles states is simply this shift to a new, loving perception). Miracles only appear when you are open to seeing them first. Happiness only happens when you are open to being happy first.
So many of us have thought this thought:
I’ll be happy when… (insert future acquisition).
When you get the job or the promotion, the house or the car, the money or the recognition, will you be happy then? Will you keep postponing your happiness for a future date? Will you wait for happiness to come to you in the form of an achievement? Holding onto the belief that happiness is always just around the corner is a wonderful way to ensure you never experience happiness in this moment.
If you want to see peace, love, joy, light, enthusiasm, or patience, become these qualities. Believe that what you want is already here. Believe that you live in a universe that responds to your thoughts, your whole being. Once you give what you want to receive, you are given that; not the other way around.
The light has already come, we just have to tune into it. The miracle is already here, we just need to choose to see with love again. The peace is in this situation so long as you bring the peace with you. The joy is in the room when you walk into the room with joy. Stop attaching happiness to an object or person outside of yourself, and you will know that happiness is always here waiting for you to see it.
Trust everything that happens.
Louise Hay has a wonderful affirmation that she uses a lot, and it goes like this: “Everything I need to know will be revealed to me in the perfect time and space sequence.” How life changing and liberating this sentence can be.
For a lot of us, we think we have to control everything in order to make something happen. Going with the flow might sound like a lackadaisical way of approaching the world, but sometimes adopting a more trusting mindset is a beautiful transition. We cannot control everything, but we can control some things (like how we handle what happens around us). It’s a balance, for sure.
We can use one hand for manifesting the life we love, and we can use the other hand to trust that whatever happens is a necessary part of our journey. If you can believe and see that life is happening for you, rather than to you, you can worry less and enjoy more. You can relax knowing that, by doing your best and trusting what life offers you, your ideal life is the very one you’re living in this moment.
Honestly look without judgment.
“The day you decide that you are more interested in being aware of your thoughts than you are in the thoughts themselves—that is the day you will find your way out.” I love this quote from Michael Singer, and I’ve used it before because it resonates with me on a deep, deep level.
To look at yourself, and at your life, without judging what you find is really the act of giving yourself permission to take fearless inventory. It’s the act of looking at your ego without using your ego. It’s about looking at your fear without fear. You can look at something and, realizing that there has to be a better way, choose differently. You can do this without judgment, and that in itself is so life changing.
Give yourself permission to feel what you’re feeling. If you feel crappy, see that you feel crappy. You don’t need to beat yourself up about it, and then beat yourself up about beating yourself up. Know that you can come out of it, and that knowledge saves you from feeling swallowed by the emotion.
We’re all walking the human experience. We all mess up. We all sometimes give in to the temptation of judging ourselves and others, but we can keep choosing differently. When we’re brutally honest about messing up without pointing fingers or assigning blame, we can find our way out.
- In what small way can you become what you wish to see in the world?
- What thought helps you trust your experiences?
- Are you willing to shift away from judgment and choose again?
